All of these penners are dyed using medieval leather dyes. The black is dyed with oak galls and iron, and the red is dyed with madder and brazilwood dyes. Each batch of leather soaks in their respective dyes for up to a month to make sure the colors are vivid and bright. The woods are natural walnut and Padauk to give a color that works well with the dyed leather
